Making Housing Affordable by Design
Making Housing Affordable by Design! Hear from Scott Dobbe and Abe Lueders from Omaha by Design. They are a non-profit that contributes to a thriving metro by convening, engaging, educating and advocating for excellence in people-centered urban design and policy. The Affordable by Design Housing Playbook is designed to apply innovation int he accelerated production of affordable housing solutions. Together with its partners, Omaha by Design is proud to introduce this series of open-source affordable housing prototypes, collaboratively designed to assist prospective homeowners and developers in their efforts to address the "affordability gap" in new-construction infill housing.
The Custer Economic Development Corporation highlighted housing initiatives since 2014, noting the construction of more than 80 homes and 61 apartment units since 2013. Scotti Ross and Stuart Fox emphasized that many of these projects were made possible through Tax Increment Financing (TIF).
The November HomeNE webinar focused on rural housing initiatives in Nebraska, with a presentation from John Madsen and Jon Schmaderer highlighting successful housing development strategies in Stuart. They discussed partnerships, funding approaches, and the role of local organizations in promoting affordable housing.
